Your Rights as a Member of the IAEP Local R7-11Members of IAEP Local R7-11 have protections that are granted through their membership in the union. If called into an interview with management that may result in disciplinary action, members have specific representational rights. These are known as the Weingarten Rights. Weingarten Rights
The following Rules apply when an investigatory interview occursRule 1:You must make a clear request to have union representation present before or during the interview. You cannot bedisciplined for making this request. Rule 2:After a request for representation is made, management can do one of three things:
Rule 3:If your manager or supervisor denies your request for union representation and continues to ask you questions, they arecommitting an unfair labor practice and you have the right to refuse to answer. You cannot be disciplined for this refusal. The following statement could save your job: If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated I respectfully request that my steward be present at the meeting. Without representation present, I choose not to respond to any questions or statements. If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact a union steward who can explain in greater detail how and when the Weingarten Rights should be invoked.
